| Thanks for checking in! I have not painted for awhile, but plan on a series of miniature paintings to be completed in 2008. As you may find out, we are leaving for Patagonia Nov/Dec, so many of my paintings will start in the Southern Hemisphere.
Following are my new sculptures, some completed, some in progress.
| Since my travels to Africa, I have become very enamored with the kudu. It seems to parallel our beautiful elk in many ways... notably in size, grace and movement. This is a newly commissioned piece that has met with great approval, which is very exciting to me, as I would like to study this animal even more.(PLEASE SCROLL DOWN FOR ADDITIONAL IMAGES)
'Silent Appraisal' Edition of 48 25"H x 19"L x 16"W $3200
(It's 16" from horn tip to horn tip)
This is one of my two new moose maquettes:.
'Downhill Slide' Edition of 48 13"H x 12"L x 7"W $2000
This piece is a bit of a departure from my somewhat serious work, and the first in my new series. I have always enjoyed a strong sense of humor, and have received rave reviews on this adventure of whimsy.Keep an eye out for my next mouse in the series entitled 'Banana Slug'
'Pear Hug' Edition of 200 4 ½"H x 4 1/2"L x 3"W $420
'Little Lioness' Edition of 48 14"H x 14"L x 4"W $1500
As with the mouse, this sculpture was inspired by the whimsical nature of cat. As a child, my folks had a nice library of books, including many animal books. I spent hours flipping through them, page after page, studying the photos and facts about various critters. I especially remember one cat book that had an endearing pose of a teenage Siamese cat, stretched out in a familiar feline stance, as if to ask, ` And what do you have for ME?` I remember wishing I could get ahold of that silly little cat, and sketched it on occasion, as if I could bring it to life. After my parents divorced in the early 80`s (and recently reunited!) they underwent the discarding of 'unimportant` belongings in order to combine households. To my amazement, on a recent visit, tucked away on a new bookshelf was the familiar childhood book. I took the opportunity to finally turn this memory into a 3-D reality and, after my recent trips to Africa, titled the piece to reflect the beautiful similarities in our little house cat and the powerful animals that rule the Serengeti.
We recently ventured to the east coast for a new show, and met some terrific people. As well as making new friends, we were commissioned to do a life size pair of English setters, the first one shown here in progress. We hope to have these completed by spring, if not sooner.
Commissioned by more new friends back east, this portrait of 'Max' (German Shorthaired Pointer) was the culmination of several visits (and sittings!) with a beautiful dog. Max was fairly unimpressed with having to undergo many pokings and proddings, but it still was a very enjoyable venture for me. Although the 'bird in mouth' is a little controversial, I am not a vegetarian, therefore I accept that death does happen on behalf of most of us. A good hunter and dog team will make sure it is as humane as possible.
This mid size edition of 'Turning Point` was created for the new Legacy Members of the Brigham Young University Cougar Club (Arizona Chapter) in gratitude of their dedication and donation to the cougar monument project. There are 48 in this edition, with the first 20 having been sold to BYU. The remaining numbers will be available through me. The small edition of 'Turning Point` is nearly sold out.
'Turning Point'(mid-size) Edition of 48 26"H x 30"L x 12"W $6400
BYU has their new cougar monument! The installation and dedication was completed in October 06, with a terrific effort by all. Thanks to all of the people who made this possible (BYU Staff and Donors). It feels like I have a whole new family now. Please see the monument page for additional information. I have branched out a bit into figurative work and have completed my first bronze that is NOT wildlife. I was so in love with my little new born boys (it wasn't THAT long ago!) that I always wanted to convey the way I felt when I held them close.
Knowing for years that I wanted to tackle this piece, I found myself 'stalking' pregnant women in the grocery stores...trying to decide if they would think I was a lunatic in asking them to model naked with their new baby. Then my niece turned up pregnant and agreed to pose after the baby was born. Although this is not a portrait of anyone in particular, it does represent the 'Bond for Life' that can only come with motherhood. (More images on the Mother and Child page at left)
'Bond for Life' Edition of 48 26H x 9L x 11W $4200
